Kate Slade

Currently serves as the head women’s lacrosse coach at Widener University. Prior to Widener she spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the nationally-ranked program at Franklin & Marshall. 

She was a successful student-athlete herself on the collegiate level as a four-year letterwinner at Scranton between 2008-11. She was an All-Landmark Conference selection every year, which included making the first team three times, and earned a place on the Landmark Conference All-Academic Team as a senior. Furthermore, she holds the school record for caused turnovers (123) while also contributing 100 points on 84 goals and 16 assists. She also ranks fourth in the program annals in ground balls (195) and sixth in draw controls (130).
 
Slade, who received a merit award for academic excellence and athletic achievement, earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Scranton in 2011.

Curriculum 

Since 2006, HEADstrong Lacrosse has been committed to providing lacrosse players with an incredible and fun-filled learning experience. . This camp is beneficial for experienced and beginner players as it focuses on technical and tactical development. 

This camp follows a 3-pronged approach:

  1. Individual instruction
  2. Team concepts
  3. Character development.

Q? What does the cost of the camp include?

  • 9 hours of expert instruction by a staff exclusively comprised of current and former college, pro players and coaches over the course of 3 days. 
  • Limited edition HEADstrong tank, HEADstrong shoelaces, HEADstrong lanyard and HEADstrong sticker. 
  • Opportunities to win prizes 

Q? What skill level is required to attend camp?

  • We have participants who come from varying skill levels ranging from those who are new to lacrosse, to those who are advanced. 

Q? What should my child bring to camp?

  • Helmet or Eye Goggles, Mouth Piece, Shoulder, Arm Pads, Gloves, Stick(s), Cleats and Water 

Q? What type of activities are offered at camp?

Q? What will the player to coach ratio be?

  • It's our goal to staff camp with enough coaches for a 10 players to 1 coach ratio. However, some age groups may be combined depending on enrollment size at each level. 

Q? How are players divided?

  • Players will be divided by attack and middies, defense and goalies. 

Q? What position will be taught?

  • This camp provides instruction for every position. (Attack, Middies, Defense and Goalies). 

Q? Is there family discounts available?

  • Yes, If you are registering more than one player in your family this season, you are entitled to receive a 10% discount on the second +child's registration fee. Click the registration button to learn more.

Q? Where can I drop and pick my son or daughter up?

  • There will be a designated area at the field to drop and pick your son or daughter up from camp.

Q? How will the players be grouped?

  • The players will be grouped by age then by playing ability. Playing ability will be judged by the coaches so your son or daughter can be grouped correctly.

Q? Can I purchase HEADstrong apparel and awareness items at camp?

  • Yes, HEADstrong will have a trailer with our apparel and awareness items. 100% of the proceeds support the HEADstrong Foundation's mission of improving lives affected by cancer. 

Q? What if my child has an injury or medical condition? 

  • If your child has a pre-existing medical condition please notify the camp director prior to the start of camp. An athletic trainer will be on staff at all times to take care of any injuries that may occur. Please note the athletic trainer is available to assist with any medications. 

Q? What if my son or daughter is going to be absent?

  • You will need to notify the camp director at Michael@HEADstrong.org.

Q? Can my child leave with someone besides me?

  • Yes, you will need to fill out a form and provide a scanned copy of their identification. If this is not fulfilled they will not be able to pick your son or daughter up.

Q? What is the refund policy?

  • Refunds will only be issued for medical reasons only. If a serious injury occurs prior to or during camp, a letter of explanation accompanied by a doctor's note may be submitted to the HEADstrong Lacrosse director. 

Q? What is the weather policy?

  • The camp will operate rain or shine. The camp will not be postponed or cancelled for weather related circumstances.
